We are asking you for 10 minutes of innovation practice a day. For innovation mojo—as in caring relationships—strength training and, uh…let’s say pancake making, consistency trumps having only the infrequent big gesture. Two big reasons for this:

* The numbers game – author Mark Levy says, “Your best thought comes embedded in chunks of your worst thought. What’s the only way to reliably mine your best thought? Write a lot. Think ‘quantity.’” Nobel laureate Linus Pauling stated it this way: “The best way to get good ideas is to get lots of ideas, and then bring the best ones forward.”

* Myelin – that’s right, myelin. Consistency brings strength and increased efficiency to our neural connections through the accumulation of myelin—the protective sheath that develops when we fire connections consistently. It’s easier to do additional neural building where some solid scaffolding already exists. Myelin is one of the key physiological correlates to talent/proficiency. Start building some more innovation-triggered and innovation-supporting myelin!

Plus, you’ll be even better now in the Big Innovation Event and can push even further. Think of it like training for an innovation triathlon – you will want to have the creative muscles ready to take on the challenge.
